How To Invest In US Treasury Bills

Posted by Ky Spector on

US Treasury Bills are a great less risky investments. One of the main reasons I like to invest in these are due to it's liquidity.

What I mean is, these bills don't require you to hold them for long periods of time. One of the bills is as short as 4 weeks.

Think of it as a monthly loan to the government.

Three things you need to know to before you can invest in US Treasury Bills

  1. Go to the Treasury Direct and create and account.
  2. You will have to bid on a Treasury Note
    • You can bid for a bill in two ways:
      • Non-Competitive Bid
        • I invest in Non-Competitive because you are guaranteed to receive the bill you want, and in the full amount you want.
      • Competitive Bid
        • This is more tough and often requires more research. Since this is already a low paying interest investment I don't like spending more time than I need to.
    • If you want to learn more details on the two types of bidding Click Here.
  3. Bills are sold in increments of $100. The minimum purchase is $100.

This is an easy investment and doesn't require a lot of capital to get started.
